See the World, Change the World: Data at a Planetary Scale

Dr. Tanya Harrison

What is it like to work with data and technology at a planetary scale, but with constraints that are also out of this world?

Dr. Tanya Harrison self-describes as a “Professional Martian” having worked in mission operations for multiple Mars rovers, and is a writer and acknowledged worldwide as a space expert.

As Director of Science Strategy at the Earth observing company Planet, Dr. Harrison now works with a team that handles approximately two hundred of satellites and downloads over 25 TB of new data daily covering the entire landmass of our home world. The goal? Empowering informed, deliberate, and meaningful stewardship of our planet.
